Policy

Support your employees at a time they need it the most, with our Pregnancy Loss Policy template

Going through pregnancy loss will be different for every person whether physically or emotionally. We hope that our policy gives employees the framework to talk about their experiences and receive the support they need.

Our template policy includes:

Why your employees need a pregnancy loss policy
Practicalities around how to book time off and how many days your employees should be entitled to
Resources for employees, as well as helpful terminology

At Fertifa, we recognise the importance of supporting the health of all our employees, especially when it comes to some of life's most difficult moments, like experiencing pregnancy loss.

  • Early miscarriages happen to 10-20 in 100 (10 to 20%) of pregnancies.
  • One in three women may develop PTSD after an early pregnancy loss.
  • About 1% of couples trying to conceive will experience recurrent miscarriages.

Our template policy includes includes practical guidance on workplace adjustments and helpful terminology that covers some of the more confusing and lesser-known terms. Crafted by Fertifa's in-house doctors, nurses, midwives (all who have extensive experience supporting people through pregnancy loss) our policy aims to provide employees with the time, resources, and support they need to heal and recover from the emotional and physical impact of pregnancy loss.

It’s designed to be inclusive of every gender identity, family structure, sexual orientation, relationship status, age, and background, and is part of our commitment to you that all colleagues are treated fairly, equally, and with respect.

Our Pregnancy Loss Policy covers a range of different support options and adjustments, designed to cover our employees through the different types of pregnancy loss and beyond. We’ve kept it broad and flexible because no two people will experience menopause in the same way.

To use it when drafting your own policy, just copy and paste the Google Doc and make your own edits accordingly.

Over the next few months, we'll be releasing more of our internal policies, including our parental and carer policies. We hope that other companies will use these templates when thinking about establishing their own.

If you feel like the language we’ve used here could be changed to be more inclusive of you, please let us know. We are always open to learning.

Thank you!
